When Sallie Zimmerchakel opened Wittrup Motel and Sallie’s Restaurant and Snackbar in Albertslund in 1955, they quickly had many guests from Korsør. Many were travelers to and from Korsør and Copenhagen who needed a place to stay and eat on the way. For people from Korsør, it was especially convenient to stay at Wittrup and Sallie’s, as we were among the first motels where you could park your car right in front of your room!
Today, the restaurant attracts many guests from Slagelse and also serves as a popular dining spot for travelers taking a break from the E20 highway between Jutland, Funen and Zealand. We are located right next to Korsør Marina and therefore also serve many sailors and tourists. There is also a large space for camper vans, which are always welcome at the restaurant.
Denmark's first cheeseburger and other delicious dishes
Sallie’s By The Sea in Korsør is built around the authentic story of Sallie, her motel and the accompanying snack bar from the 50s. Sallie’s also has a special place in Danish history - among other things, we served the first cheeseburger in Denmark.
Today, much of the menu is directly inspired by what Sallie served in the 1950s. Here you can find, among other things, Sallie’s Original Cheeseburger, various steaks, fish ‘n’ chips, pulled pork, Sallie’s American Style Barbecue Ribs and a number of other dishes - including vegetarian dishes. The emphasis is on quality, and most of the food is prepared according to their own recipes, even the mayonnaise.
Among Sallie's beverages you will find various high-quality milkshakes, including Sallie's Original Coffee Shake, which Lise Nørgaard was served when she, as a journalist for the daily newspaper Politiken, visited the place in 1955 in connection with the opening.
At Sallie’s By The Sea, guests can sit on the terrace and enjoy the view of the Great Belt and the bridge with a Sallie’s burger and milkshake in hand. The evenings can be especially fabulous with magnificent sunsets.
